Using these tips will get you going to optimize your riding style and fitness level.

Safety

  • We always recommend that you ride with a helmet and safety gear. Pay special attention to where you are riding, your proximity to other people, and especially your proximity to cars if you are learning to ride on a street or in a parking lot.
  • Never pull back on the handlebars unless the brakes are applied. You don't want the front end to come up and the rear wheels to roll out from under you.
  • Some people will tend to jerk forward and backwards trying to make it go. Don't do this... Just give one easy kick off and begin moving your legs in and out with an easy flow, Forward propulsion will begin -- it’s easy.

Athletic abilities required?

An athletic background is absolutely NOT required. Regardless of your athletic skills, you can learn to ride a Zip Scooter in just a few minutes The Zip Scooter with its patent design will keep you in complete control. You can ride the Zip Scooter just for fun or push it to a higher level for personal Fitness or Extreme Sports! Unlike other Scooter devices on the market that take hours of practice and awkward shifting of weight and balance, the Zip Scooter is designed for maximum enjoyment and performance.

How to make it go?

First, you need to be on a completely flat surface or a very slight downhill. Try to find somewhere that will give you the most distance before you have to turn around. An outdoor tennis or basketball court are ideal places to learn, or your own driveway or sidewalk. Do not try to learn how to ride on an incline.

While the Zip Scooter is NOT in motion

  • Spread the Wheels about two feet apart, apply the brakes and stand perfectly normal on the foot platforms. Don't squat; don't bend your knees (don't lock them either) but stand up in a normal posture. Get comfortable on your Zip Scooter and know that it's not going to tip-over. All three wheels stay on the ground at all times.
  • While continuing in a stationary position and keeping your shoulders parallel to the handle bars release the brakes and start moving your legs in and out. You will be amazed by the forward motion you have achieved (its ok to give yourself a push-off). Once in motion, get comfortable with the amount of speed you have created. Do NOT move the steering column to the left and right. Simply keep moving your legs to an open and closed position or in abduction to adduction movement. Your arms will remain fairly straight with a slight bend in your elbows.

While the Zip Scooter is in motion

Once you start moving just keep on that track. You will be amazed of all the different movements you can accomplish on the Zip Scooter. You can simulate inline Skating movements, Snow skiing simulation or develop your own unique sliding motion on the Zip Scooter.

Weight Distribution and Turning

  • When turning to the left, you're putting most of your weight on the RIGHT foot.
  • When turning to the right, you're distributing your weight to the LEFT foot.
  • Your brain is programmed to keep you upright and balanced. When making your first turn feel confidant that you will do it with ease. Start the turn by spreading your feet a little wider and start turning the handlebars, at the same time lean into the turn you are making. The first couple of times make an easy and slow turn. After a couple of test runs you will able to increase your speed and turning radius to your own needs. You have just entered into a new world of Zip Scooter Sport, Zip Scooter Fitness and Zip Scooter Fun!

Summary

  • Keep the handle bars parallel to your shoulders. The center of the steering column will always remain pointing towards the upper center of your chest.
  • Use your shoulders to turn the handlebars thus, keeping your arms fairly straight while your upper body and shoulders stay parallel as you turn the handlebars left and right.
  • Don't move the steering column to the left and right. Turn ONLY the handlebars left and right. Once in motion you will start distributing your weight on the opposite foot of the direction you're turning. Turning LEFT put weight on RIGHT foot. Turning RIGHT put weight on your LEFT foot.
  • Don't try too hard. Relax, get comfortable and apply one technique at a time.

Notes on Safety

  • Do not ride a Zip Scooter with polyurethane wheels through water. If you have to go through water make sure you ride straight through and do not turn quickly.
  • Always look behind you before making a sharp turn or sudden course change, etc.
  • Use proper riding etiquette. For example, you can say, "coming to your left" or "passing on your left" when overtaking bicycles or pedestrians.
